Mt. Madoi Razi. Towering 15146 ft, 4616 meter above sea, and located straight north of Putao is one of the unique features of Eastern Himalaya. The remote plateau region lies in the rain shadow of the Madoi Madaing Razi, alpine range land ecosystem is the sacred water tower of Malikha. Alpine range land of Madoi Razi provides habitats for numerous species of wildlife, many of which are endangered and for a wealth of plant species of medicinal value and other species. Meadow rangeland of the Himalaya is also some of the world’s most outstanding rangeland ecosystems.
Brief Itinerary
Day-1 (Friday/Tuesday): Putao (arrival).
Day-2 (Saturday/ Wednesday): Truck to Htadindum (beyond this is a complete wilderness), trek to Camp I.
Day-3 (Sunday/ Thursday): Trek across MaDoi Creek to Camp II.
Day-4 (Monday Friday): Trek along Madoi creek to the confluence of Madoi and Namfa creeks to camp III. Day-5 (Tuesday/ Saturday): Trek to Camp IV (ascending about one thousand meters in single day).
Day-6 (Wednesday/ Sunday): Trek to Camp V (through difficult terrain up and down with quite significant ascend.
Day-7 (Thursday/ Monday): Trek to the Snow Line Camp (Camp VI).
Day-8 (Friday/ Tuesday): Trek to Camp VII near MaDoi Pond (as known as Nanda Kan).
Day-9 (Saturday/ Wednesday): Trek to Camp VIII, near another pond twice the size of the Madoi pond.
Day-10 (Sunday/ Thursday): Trek to the MaDoi Summit, return to Camp VI.
Day-11 (Monday/ Friday): Trek to camp V.
Day-12 (Tuesday/ Saturday): Trek to camp III.
Day-13 (Wednesday/ Sunday): Trek to Camp I.
Day-14 (Thursday/ Monday): Return trek to Htadindum, jeep to Putao.
Day-15 (Friday/ Tuesday): Putao (departure) – onward journey.

Detailed Itinerary
Day – 1 (Friday/Tuesday): Putao (Arrival)
Arrival. Upon arrival at Putao airport meet and greet by PutaoLodge’s representative and transfer to your guest house. Putao, lies in a flat valley, jumping-off point for trekkers who want to explore the region’s deep forests, wildlife sanctuaries and snow-capped mountains etc. After a brief fresh up havelight lunch and take a walk in and around Putao for the orientation. Dinner and overnight at Putao Lodge. (_, _, D)
Day-2 (Saturday/ Wednesday): Putao – Htadindum – camp I (Jeep/ trek)
Early in the morning visit attractive Putao market. After breakfast leave truck to Htadindum on dirt road which take about one hour. Our adventure starts here as we get off the truck and start trek to camp I, situate at 1960 ft, 598 meter through lowland crossing a couple smaller creek. After a challenging crossing Nanyin creek (about 300 ft wide) using rope we set up camp. Dinner and overnight in tents.
Day-3 (Sunday/ Thursday): Camp I – camp II (trek)
Breakfast and we set off for our today destination at camp II, situated at 2453 ft, 748 meter which should take us about 8 hour on the lowland trek. Terrain will be difficult and we will have to cross Marchu creek which is rather swift and challenging which we may need a rope to span the creek and cross very carefully. We continue trek until we reach Madoi creek which was also equality difficult. We should called it a day after we cross the creek. Dinner and overnight in tents.
Day-4 (Monday Friday): Camp II – Camp III (aka) Nampa Chaung camp (trek)
Breakfast and we set off for our today destination at camp III, situates at 2874 ft, 876 meter along Madoi creek until we reach confluence of Madoi and Namfa creeks. The so-called subnival zone is the one of the first to study the relationship between plants and ultraviolet light and also one of the best fields on earth to observe continuous forest vegetation from the tropical lowland to the tree line and alpine scrub vegetation above. Once we cross Namfa creek and called it a day. Dinner and overnight in tents.
Day-5 (Tuesday/ Saturday): Camp III – Camp IV (trek)
Breakfast and we set off for our today destination at camp IV situates at 5404 ft, 1647 meter which should take us about 7 hours to complete. Actual ascending starts from here as we trek up along small stream coming straight down from the mountains. After a challenging up hill trek through 6000 ft, 1828 meter mountain we should finally reach at camp IV. In total our journey involve a slight descend but quite significant ascend. At this stage we witness a rich alpine range land habitats for numerous species of wildlife. Many of which are endangered and for a wealth of plant species. Dinner and overnight at tents.
Day-6 (Wednesday/ Sunday): Camp IV – Camp V (trek)
Breakfast and we set off for our today destination at camp V situates at 9165 ft, 2794 meter which should take us about 8 hours. By far today destination is challenging one as we first descend 1076 ft (328 meter) but later ascend up to 4649 ft (1417 meter). Here we witness Alpine – Himalaya meadow ecosystem of Madaing Razi with both its new and old floras and its abundant floristic components is one of the Myanmar’s biggest treasure-house of plant resources. We should arrive relatively early but our team do need some time to fetch water as they have to about one mile to get some water. Dinner and overnight in tents.
Day-7 (Thursday/ Monday): Camp V – Camp VI (trek)
Breakfast and we set off for our today destination at camp VI situates at 11652 ft, 3551 meter which should take about 8 hours. Here we notice most alpine plants are dwarfish, considerable number of curious gigantic plants as snowball, glasshouse plants which beautify the Myanmar section of Eastern Himalaya. This camp has a small water pond thus getting water was not a problem at this point. Dinner and overnight in tents.
Day-8 (Friday/ Tuesday): Camp VI – Camp VII snow line (snow trek)
Breakfast and we enjoy beautiful surrounding having pine elevation leaving the tree line below. We set off for our today destination at camp VI situates at 12811 ft, 3905 meter on challenging snow trek which should take us about 6 hours. On the way we notice a unique character of Eastern-Himalaya flora. By mean of minimizing their body size by minimizing their own physiological necessities. They keep their entomophiliesflowers large to attract pollinators. Dwarf plants with large flower-head can be seen in the upper alpine zone, above 4800 meter of the Madoi Madaing Razi. We rest through the afternoon acclimatising the height. Here located renowned Madoi pond (as known as Nanda Kan) which was exactly one mile (1.6 km) in diameter. Dinner and overnight in tents.
Day-9 (Saturday/ Wednesday): Camp VII – Camp VIII (aka) Big Pond camp (snow trek)
Breakfast and we set off for our today destination at camp VIII situates at 13613 ft, 4149 meter which should take us total 8 hours to complete. In the alpine region above 4000 – 4500 meter in the Himalaya, air temperature never goes below 15 degree Celsius even at the height of summer days and the lowest air temperature is below – 10 degree Celsius. Several other plants are also known to have adaptations to keep their flowers warm, translucent bracts of Rheum nubile are such a mechanism to effectively keep the reproductive organs warm to warm to ensure reproduction in the cold summer environment of the Himalaya. Here located a pond which is twice larger then Madoi pond. Dinner and overnight in tents.
Day-10 (Sunday/ Thursday): Camp IIIV – Mt. Madoi summit – Camp VI (trek)
Early in the morning we set off for the summit at 15146 ft, 4616 meter though difficult terrain and challenging weatherwhich should take us somewhere between one and an hour to three hours depends on the weather condition. Weather gets windy and gusty thus we had to climb carefully. Once we are at summit, we spend some time and return back to camp VIII. We had breakfast and return back to camp VI passing through camp VII. Dinner and overnight in tents.
Day-11 (Monday/ Friday): Camp – IIV – Camp V
Breakfast and we continue descend till we reach at camp V. Most of the journey is down hill thus we gain much speed butmore strenuous balancing ourselves. As usual we enjoy beautiful flora and fauna of Eastern Himalayas as we trek. Dinner and overnight in tents.
Day-12 (Tuesday/ Saturday): Camp V – Camp III (trek)
Breakfast and we keep trek back to our today destination at camp III, which should take us about 6 hours. Dinner and overnight in tents.
Day-13 (Wednesday/ Sunday): Camp III – Camp I (trek)
Breakfast and we set off for our today destination at camp I, passing through low land scarf forests, crossing a number of challenging creeks. Dinner and overnight in tents.
Day-14 (Thursday/ Monday): Camp I – Htadindum – Putao (trek/ Jeep)
Breakfast and we set off for our today destination at Htadindum through tropical low land scarf forests which should take us about 7 hours. Here we hopped on our truck and set off for Putao. Overnight at Putao Lodge.
Day-15 (Friday/ Tuesday): Putao – onward journey
Departure. Breakfast and perhaps a last minute shopping at Putao market. Later transfer to airport for our onward departure flight to conclude this unique experience.

Current season air fares between Putao and Yangon, Mandalay and Myitkyinar are US$245, US$150 and US$100 per person each way and subject to changes by airlines for the following seasons. We can arrange your flights on request.
